I had been several times previously and was excited to share one of my favourite places with D.\u00a0\u00a0He was mostly excited to learn that this is known as the Craft Brewery Capital of America.  With that, I didn\u2019t need to convince him further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We stayed outside of San Diego in Mira Mesa, a neighboured located a bit north of the city of San Diego.\u00a0\u00a0We stayed in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.marriott.com\/hotels\/travel\/sansh-springhill-suites-san-diego-rancho-bernardo-scripps-poway\/\">SpringHill Suites<\/a>\u00a0on points which was perfect for us!\u00a0\u00a0Not too far outside of downtown San Diego and the perfect location for day trips to Temecula Wine Country and Palm Springs for a day or two!\u00a0\u00a0Now make no mistake, the real reason we stayed in this vicinity is because D chose the location based on the sheer number of craft breweries within a dense area!\u00a0\u00a0Otherwise, most of San Diego\u2019s beer scene is relatively spread out making it difficult to visit many within a single day \u2013 he was thinking ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With some legendary brew pubs such as Stone Brewing, Green Flash, Ballast Point, AleSmith and Coronado \u2013 you have arrived at what is commonly known now as the \u201cNapa of Beer\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0No trip to San Diego is complete unless you add a pint-stop or two at a local brewery or gastropub.\u00a0\u00a0Like fine wines, gastropubs are pairing creative dishes made with local ingredients, with local craft beer.\u00a0\u00a0Some of our favourites are below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenflashbrew.com\/\">Green Flash Brewing<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 Literally located down the street from our hotel you will find this warehouse tasting room offering a wide selection of beers on tap!\u00a0\u00a0There is a large tasting room, a beer garden and it\u2019s dog friendly!\u00a0\u00a0They also have a food truck outside so you can pair your pints with sausage platters, gourmet grill cheese, or tacos!\u00a0\u00a0Just based on the proximity, we came here every night for a night cap before bed!\u00a0\u00a0D\u2019s favourite, hands down, was the West Coast IPA.\u00a0\u00a0Fitting don\u2019t you think?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.longshipbrewery.com\/home\">Longship Brewing<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 Located around the corner from Green Flash you will also find this brew pub.\u00a0\u00a0Another dog friendly venue \u2013 I love the vibe of California!\u00a0\u00a0We really need to adopt that in Canada.\u00a0\u00a0Anyway, onto the beers.\u00a0\u00a0The Shieldwall for D; a traditional West Coast IPA with a crisp taste of citrus and grapefruit, with a balanced with hoppy bitterness on the finish.\u00a0\u00a0The Sif\u2019s Hefe for me; a traditional wheat beer with notes of banana!\u00a0\u00a0Onsite menu offering simple quesadillas and tacos!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.roughdraftbrew.com\/\">Rough Draft Brewing Company<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 The traditional industrial vibe and a nice option for a smaller intimate venue.\u00a0\u00a0Rough Draft is known for their IPAs, but also have some other beers on tap to sample, offering up 18 taps along with a tasting room-only, serving pilot batches.\u00a0\u00a0They also have a kitchen so you can enjoy pairing.\u00a0\u00a0We recommend the roasted red pepper hummus with fresh veggies and pita and the build your own board.\u00a0\u00a0The boards come with fresh bread, candied or roasted nuts and fresh seasonal fruit.\u00a0\u00a0Our recommendations would be the black truffle aged salumi, 24 month old Prosciutto, the prairie breeze, and the Saint Andre cheeses.\u00a0\u00a0Gone are the days where you only pair boards with vino!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>May, 2018 In May 2018, we decided to venture to San Diego.
